Traveltek Unveils New Focus at ITB Berlin 2019

28th February 2019 - Glasgow, UK

As in previous years,Traveltek will again be represented at ITB Berlin 2019. ITB Berlin is widely recognised as a leading travel trade show on a global scale. Now in its 52nd year,it’s one of the most established events in the calendar and is attended by over 110,000 trade visitors annually. This is where supply meets demand. Here at Traveltek, we supply cutting-edge travel software to meet those unique demands of the global travel trade.

Year of Change

The past year has been a successful one for Traveltek.  We were named Europe’s Leading Travel Technology Provider for a second year running as well as scooping the title of World’s Leading Dynamic Packaging Solutions Provider for an impressive fifth year in a row.

Nevertheless, despite the accolades, we are still keen to grow and develop. As a result, in 2018, Traveltek appointed a new management board made up of prominent industry names.

This restructure brings with it a new focus for us, as travel software specialists. We’re now in the process of moving away from our origins as a bespoke “development house” to a more streamlined, software as a service (SaaS) model. This change will benefit both new and prospective clients with increased efficiencies and a much-improved core platform.

Product Roadmap

As part of this transition, in 2019, we’re investing heavily in our existing products as well as introducing a suite of innovative new solutions. These advanced tools are being developed in line with feedback received from our current clients, as well as findings unearthed following an in-depth market analysis undertaken by the Product Management Team. All of the projects will now be shown in Traveltek’s new Product Roadmap. This is a working document, which will be visible to all clients, outlining the upcoming activities for product development and enhancement.

We Shine a Light on Five of the Top Cruise Industry Developments

26th February 2019 - Glasgow, UK

As the cruise industry continues to enjoy unprecedented growth, we shine a light on five of the top developments and cruise lines to look out for in the coming year, all of which are bookable with our industry-leading cruise booking technology.

A Swell of Ocean Ships

All major lines are adding to their collection, with a steady supply of ships due to set sail in the next few years. In 2019, Traveltek partner, MSC Cruises, will unveil two new vessels. The 4,500 passenger MSC Bellissima will be named in Southampton in March, followed by the launch of MSC Grandiosa in November.

River is on the Rise

River cruise is very much à la mode at the moment and there’s set to be a host of new arrivals to the river cruise scene in 2019. A number of the major players within the market are already part of our growing network such as Amadeus River Cruises, Riviera Travel and CriosiEurope. However, one in particular to watch this year is one of our newest partners, AMAWaterways. The latest addition to their assortment of boats is the AMAMagna, which launches on the Danube in May. This larger than life boat is twice the width of regular river cruise vessels and promises to bring a new dimension to river cruising with four dining venues, a water sports platform and luxury accommodation.

High Seas, High Tech

Cruise lines are going digital with new high-tech toys that promise to revolutionise the customer cruise experience. MSC is once again at the forefront with the launch of Zoe, hailed as the world’s first virtual persona cruise assistant, on the new MSC Bellissima. The artificial intelligence voice-activated aid will be able to answer hundreds of customer’s questions about their cruise. Another prominent player available with our cruise booking technology, Royal Caribbean, is investing in this space too with the enhancement of its Excalibur technology platform which promises to provide a more streamlined customer experience, with accelerated check-in, simplified embarkation and disembarkation, and the ability to book on board products and services in advance of sailing.

Slick Ships

It’s not all about new ships. A number of key cruise lines have also pledged to invest in their existing vessels with new styles and functionality. Celebrity Cruises, also available on the Traveltek platform, has embarked on a $500 million “reimagining” of its fleet, bringing features from its newest ship, Celebrity Edge, to existing vessels. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines have also announced or embarked on fleet refurbishment plans, all of which will be bookable by Traveltek’s global client base.

Eastern Escapades

The popularity of Far East cruises shows no signs of waning with many lines adding to its sailings within the region. Three lines, integrated within our platform, who are showing particular growth within Asia-Pacific are Oceania Cruises, adding to their Japan sailings; Uniworld, venturing to the Yangtze river and Avalon Waterways, bringing cruises to the Indian Ganges river.

Statistics back up the fact that cruise is on the rise with CLIA estimating that 30 million people will cruise globally in 2019, a 40% growth over the last five years. Now is the time to invest, and if you’re looking to dip your toes in the cruising market then why not choose to partner with a system that provides the largest range of aggregated cruise content, all within one platform? As an authority within the industry, we pride ourselves on offering expert advice to transform the businesses we work with. Get in touch with Traveltek’s team of specialists to help you today.

Successful Visit to The Olympia for Traveltek at TTE

22nd February 2019 - Glasgow, UK

We had two very busy days this week at Travel Technology Europe. With over 30 pre-arranged appointments and a steady flow of visitors, the Traveltek stand was a popular place during the show.

Travolution Business Breakfast

During the event some staff members also attended a TTE business breakfast. Travolution organised the event and held it in the Facebook headquarters in London. At the event, Travolution released an innovation report with an annual analysis of UK travel technology spend. The findings were very interesting. Stats suggested that UK travel firms increased spend on technology by 5% in 2018 following a fall in the previous year, bringing overall spend up to £1.79 billion. However, thanks to an uncertain Brexit landscape and economic outlook, some now believe that spend on technology will slow down in 2019.

Lee Hayhurst, Travolution Editor, noted: “The travel industry is a significant investor in technology so its heartening to see that it increased spend last year. There’s a danger, however, that it reacts to a potential slowdown by shelving plans to advance innovation and digital transformation and falls behind in a highly competitive market.”

Traveltek Confidence

Nevertheless, Neil Welsh, Traveltek Head of Sales, UK & MENA is confident that there’s still a clear requirement for technology within the travel space.

“We’re continuing to see a high demand for advanced search and dynamic packaging tools. We are confident that travel professionals will continue to invest in technology. While we were at Travel Technology Europe, we met with a number of prospective clients looking for innovative software solutions. These tools give them the competitive edge and allow them to save time and money by boosting efficiency, reducing costs and increasing agility. We expect this upward trend in travel technology to continue.”

Traveltek Team in Glasgow for Annual Global Conference

15th February 2019 - Glasgow, UK

Last week, the Traveltek team came together at the prestigious Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow for three days of intense pitches, strategic planning and a touch of karaoke.

Executive Team Take the Lead

Chief Commercial Officer, Cressida Sergeant led the event. In addition, Traveltek Chief Operating Officer, Phil Astall, Chief Technical Officer, Kenny Millar, and Chief Marketing Officer, Susie Lawler were also present. Each Exec Team member gave a presentation to the group, detailing all of the progress from 2018 and the exciting new plans in the offing for 2019.

Focused Activities

The focus of the first day of the conference was on Traveltek’s continuing, ambitious global expansion plan. With sales teams in APAC, UK, Europe and USA, each one presented their specific regional sales plan for the year to create a strategic blueprint. Additionally, Cressida gave each sales specialist the task of creating a real-life pitch for a perceptive “panel” (made up of the most discerning critics – their colleagues). Each had one hour to wow the panel with their presenting prowess. After each speech, all of the audience members gave the presenter some constructive feedback.

In addition, the  Group Product Manager, Chris Brown, also joined the team.  He talked through the 2019 product road map, revealing some very exciting plans for the coming year. These included an innovative new product which will empower agents to do something they’ve never been able to do before in the world of tour operation. The website development team also gave a presentation to showcase the enhanced framework which will benefit both existing and future client site builds.

All Work, No Play?

While there was certainly a lot of hard work over the jam-packed three days, the Traveltek team still managed to let its hair down on the final night with a few drinks and a spot of “Summer Lovin” on the karaoke.  All in all, a very successful global conference!
