We had 60 seconds to ask Jim McCumesty, Head of Development, some quick-fire questions. Here’s what he had to say:
What part of the world do you call home? Glasgow, Scotland. I’m a proud native Glaswegian; born and brought up in the East End, and currently live out in the West End.
What was the name of the last book you read? I read a lot of technical stuff, but fiction-wise I’m currently going through another phase of Scottish crime-thrillers – the last one I read was ‘The Book of Souls’ by James Oswald.
What is your favourite holiday destination? Apart from Scotland, of course?! We usually like to visit different new places and countries every year – so don’t really have a ‘favourite’ as such. Enjoy cooler places (we once took our boys on ‘summer holiday’ to Svalbard, 80 degrees North, where it was snowing!). Anywhere awesome with mountains and sea – like Alaska, Canada, New Zealand – most visited, so the favourite non-Scottish destination is probably northern Norway.
All-time favourite movie? Groundhog Day. It’s just perfect and uplifting in so many ways.
Favourite type of food?Georgian. Our last pre-lockdown summer trip was a food tour of Armenia and Georgia.
You only joined the Traveltek family in January, what three words would you use to describe the culture at Traveltek? Friendly, committed, genuine.
Can you give us an overview of what your role at Traveltek involves, and what you are most looking forward to delivering in the next 12 months? I head up the Software Development function – working with our awesome, hard-working team, modernising the platform, and bringing in some innovative technologies into the products and services we provide, especially around data. I believe there’s a great deal we can learn from other sectors.
Before joining Traveltek what other sectors have you previously worked in? I’ve been in software development for all of my professional life, in many sectors, including accounting, legal, defence, and manufacturing. For the last 21 years, I’ve specialised in security intelligence management and data analytics.
