On Saturday, November 4th 2017 we are going to be running our second hackathon. We believe in hard work, but we also believe in a good night's sleep, which is why we're running #halfahackathon - 12 hours, rather than 24. Register here and read on to learn more.
The hackathon will be held at our East Kilbride head office, at 2b Orbital Court, East Kilbride, G74 5PH. We have lots of free parking, and we're also next to both major bus routes and Hairmyres Station, which is a direct train route from Glasgow.
It will start at 9am and finish at 9pm. A more complete itinerary will be sent out to registrants closer to the time. And yes, leaving at 9pm will give you time to get the train home.
Once all participants have arrived and specified their preference between designer or programmer, we will randomly allocate teams. Teams will either be 3 or 4 people, depending on the number of participants, and we'll try and mix up the skills.
Your team is then free to interpret the theme however you want. We'll give you some flight and hotel pricing data, and you can use that if you want, but we want to see your creativity, so there's no requirement to use that if you don't want to.
Focus on "Time", focus on "Travel" or mix the two together. There will also be a prize of £500 in vouchers for the winning team.
Both "Time", "Travel" and "Time Travel" have lots of opportunities...
We're sure you'll have even better ideas!
The day is open to anyone with an interest in a career or internship at Traveltek. Whether you're a student, have a web-development background, are self-taught or are currently employed in a similar position in the industry, we would love to see you there!
This is open to both designers and programmers, as every discipline will be required. Whether you're used to building web applications or games, your team will need coders, artists, HTML or CSS experts. You can write your code in any language you want, you just need to be able to present it to everyone at the end of the day.
We will have a team of Traveltek developers, designers and project managers on hand to help mentor you throughout the day, answer your questions, provide technical support, and try and point you in the right direction. But we want the ideas to be yours, to show your creativity, not ours.
You'll need to bring a device for you to work on, probably a laptop, from which you're able to connect to our wireless network. Coming prepared with the appropriate software will save you a lot of time.
We'll provide both lunch and dinner, so we recommend you have breakfast before you arrive. We're don't guarantee we're able to provide for specific dietary requirements, but we're right next to a Lidl supermarket should you need to get out and get something yourself. And you're obviously free to bring your own food.
Places are limited, simply due to the logistics of fitting everyone in. Registration is now closed, but If you want to take part, fill out this Google Form to be put on the waiting list, and we'll let you know if we have any extra space.
If for any reason you can't take part after you've registered, use the contact details below to let us know, so we can give your place to someone else.
